Are You Certain About CertainTeed?

Many home owners have reported problems with a type of shingle called Horizon. There have reports of people having problems with their roofs within 3 years of installation, some roofs lasted 10-12 years, the problem is the shingles were meant to last 25 years according to the warranty given to them. There are also reports of crumbling and curling prematurely with these shingles. This is because CertainTeed Horizon is a faux-laminate shingle, a type of roofing shingle that didn't work out for a lot of companies.

CertainTeed Horizon is a lot like Atlas Chalet which has been extensively covered in this blog. It has a similar appearance to Atlas Chalet being a flat 3-tab shingle that is made to resemble an architectural, dimensional shingle. It's made to look like it stands out on the roof, but it retains the flat properties of a 3-tab shingle along with a false shadow. As far as deteriorating is concerned, CertainTeed Horizon seems to last longer than Atlas Chalet, wind resistance; however, is reported to be a joke for CertainTeed Horizon as some homeowners say shingles fall off after 30-40 mph wind.

When homeowners report this to CertainTeed, they recommend a CertainTeed contractor come out and re roof the house which all well and good, that's the right thing to do. The problem is according to some homeowners is after 10-12 years, the new roof starts to have the same problems as the old roof. So are you certain about CertainTeed?
