Floor Wars Epsiode 2: Attack of The Termites

Sorry for the hiatus, the site was down but it's back up now with more content, check it out www.8445restore.com.
  • Abnormal gaps stay in the floor after seasonal changes. This problem could be caused by hot spots in the subfloor, debris between boards, cracked tongues, or improper nailing.

  • Normal gaps appear between individual and open and close with changes in humidity.

  • Termites and other insects may eat up the wood causing the holes in the floor or cause the floor to sag.

  • Overwood and Underwood happen when there’s a difference between boards.  This could be caused by an irregular subfloor, insufficient subfloor holding power, or a tongue fracture.

  • Picture framing or “Halo” happens when the edges of the room appear a different color from the rest of the floor. Sometimes this is a sanding issue and other times it’s when too much finish is applied around an area of the floor.

  • Sanding marks are imperfections seen as scratches and drum marks usually caused by the problems with the sanding machine during the sanding process.

  • Shellout is where there is uneven wear between segments of annual rings. This is caused by heavy walking traffic or repeated sliding of heavy furniture.

  • If the entire floor appears uneven, it could be due to a cracked slab, uneven subfloor, or the flooring was installed over uneven screeds.

  • When dried bubbles are visible on the floor, it’s usually due to overworking finish during application or too much air movement across the floor.

Whew! That’s a lot of problems with flooring and that’s just hardwood flooring. If you’re having any of these problems, we can help. Give us a call at 1-844-5RESTORE today!

Are You Having Roof Problems?

There are seven problems you may be having with your home that all seem to have nothing to do with each other  but could have the roof to blame.  When there’s a problem with the roof, it doesn’t just affect the roof, it affects the whole house.  These are just a few of causes and effects of roof problems.

  • Shingles that are on the roof longer than their expected lifetime can start cracking and falling off the roof.

  • Old shingles have also lost a lot of granules over the years causing a dark, dirty look to some areas.

  • Damaged, compromised shingles can cause leakage in the attic space of a home.

  • High energy bills can be the result of the heating/cooling system constantly running to compensate poor attic ventilation.

  • Roof shingles and siding decaying can also be the cause of compromised attic ventilation.

  • The attic ventilation can also be blamed for exterior paint peeling off because of high humidity.

  • Compromised shingle or poor ventilation can be the result of mold and mildew growth on the ceiling.

If you have any of these problems, your roof could be the cause, but we specialize in roof replacement. Don’t let any of these roof problems rain on your parade, call us today at 1-8445RESTORE or visit us at www.8445restore.com.

Put The Model In Your Home Remodel This Year

I will be the first admit the "Catastrophe" in Rosser Catastrophe Services can be a little misleading. We're not just in the business fixing homes for a natural disaster; we're also here to help you remodel your home. There are several reasons to want to improve your home.

It doesn't always take a softball-sized hail storm to ruin your house; sometimes defects or the age of the house over time will take its toll on the home and eventually cause problems. The best thing to do is upgrade your home, give it new flooring and walls, before the old catches up to you and hurts you in the long run.

By having a fresh new house to come home to, you can have a new sense of pride and self-esteem. You can tell a lot about a person by looking at their home. It makes a great impression on guests to walk in and be blown away by the design of your abode. If you don't have guests, you can still feel proud looking around and saying "This is my house!"

HGTV has several shows about real estate flippers, people who buy broken down homes cheap, fix up them up, and sell them for a price significantly higher than what they paid for the house and repairs combined. Similarly, it's now a growing trend for home owners intending to sell their homes to do the same thing, fixing up the house 2-3 years before selling it, they have discovered it greatly raises the value of the home selling new and improved as opposed to leaving it broken down for the next home owner to fix. Also, not remodeling your home in a hurry allows you to enjoy the improvements you've made to the house in your last days living there.

Whatever your reason for remodeling your home, we've got the best crew of people to help you get the job done as well as the best products. From exterior to interior, flooring to ceiling, we've got everything to meet your home improvements needs.  Replace your old roof with new GAF Timberline HD shingles or replace your old windows with energy-efficient Simonton Windows, the sky's limit with how we can revive and revitalize your home. Are You Certain About CertainTeed?

Many home owners have reported problems with a type of shingle called Horizon. There have reports of people having problems with their roofs within 3 years of installation, some roofs lasted 10-12 years, the problem is the shingles were meant to last 25 years according to the warranty given to them. There are also reports of crumbling and curling prematurely with these shingles. This is because CertainTeed Horizon is a faux-laminate shingle, a type of roofing shingle that didn't work out for a lot of companies.

CertainTeed Horizon is a lot like Atlas Chalet which has been extensively covered in this blog. It has a similar appearance to Atlas Chalet being a flat 3-tab shingle that is made to resemble an architectural, dimensional shingle. It's made to look like it stands out on the roof, but it retains the flat properties of a 3-tab shingle along with a false shadow. As far as deteriorating is concerned, CertainTeed Horizon seems to last longer than Atlas Chalet, wind resistance; however, is reported to be a joke for CertainTeed Horizon as some homeowners say shingles fall off after 30-40 mph wind.

When homeowners report this to CertainTeed, they recommend a CertainTeed contractor come out and re roof the house which all well and good, that's the right thing to do. The problem is according to some homeowners is after 10-12 years, the new roof starts to have the same problems as the old roof. So are you certain about CertainTeed? We are a GAF certified contractor with the solution to the uncertainty of CertainTeed. Give us a call at 1-844-5RESTORE.
